New World Aeternum Season 10 Nighthaven Overview

Amazon Games have finally announced the Season 10 Update for New World Aeternum. Named ‘Nighthaven’ after the new zone, Season 10’s key features include the aforementioned new zone, a new 10-player raid, a new type of small group PvE instanced content called Catacombs, an expansive gearing and progression overhaul and a new 20 vs. 20 OPR Map.

Season 10 will be released on Monday October 13th and will be FREE for all New World Aeternum owners.

Almost everything in the Season 10 section of the July Roadmap was confirmed in this announcement. However, a couple of features the developers previously said was coming in Season 10 in other sources, were not mentioned in the announcement article.

More details about Season 10 will be revealed in an upcoming ‘chonky’ developer video in early October.

Season 10 Confirmed Content

Here is a look at all of the content revealed in the announcement article with some additional comments included from other official sources where applicable.

New Zone – Nighthaven

Nighthaven is described as follows:

An ancient land rich with history, Nighthaven was largely cut off from the rest of Aeternum for lifetimes under the direction of its powerful king. Those few who did visit the haunting woods and mighty castles tell stories of mysterious figures, tall and lithe, engaged both in the politics of the court and in the dark hallways of the land’s many ruins. These inhabitants can be both charming and welcoming, or vicious and fearsome, depending on how they view those that they interact with. They rule at the behest of their king, carving out pieces of the land that they oversee on his behalf.

There are also stories of monstrous creatures that seem to exhibit the qualities of both man and beast. Although they have largely been known to stalk the dark forests and hills of Nighthaven, they’re now an ever-present threat.

Nighthaven is a land shrouded in mystery, where the dark holds sway over the light. Power lies deep in the catacombs and ruins of this land to those who are bold and brave enough to venture there. Discover the secrets hidden in the shadows of these ancient halls, and use them to confront the threats endangering not only the people of Nighthaven, but the whole of Aeternum as well.

New Story – The Tear of Gaea

At the end of the Rise of the Angry Earth story, you may recall Morgaine taking the Tear of Gaea, that Artemis was going to use to destroy humanity, to put somewhere safe. However, it would seem things did not go to plan for Morgaine and the Tear of Gaea goes missing.

The new story will take you through the new zone, Nighthaven where you will encounter mysterious figures in your search for the artifact.

After the events of Elysian Wilds, Morgaine left with the Tear of Gaea to sequester it somewhere safe, away from ambitious intent. However, it seems that her journey was met with ill fortune, and the Tear has gone missing. She is once more turning to the Soulwarden in an attempt to recover the Tear and keep the world safe from whatever nefarious intent may be planned for it.

Travel within the newly discovered land of Nighthaven, and engage the enigmatic and mysterious figures that call it home as you search for the divine artifact. Search through ageless ruins and the facades of opulence as you work to uncover the truth of what is happening in this isolated and reclusive land. But be wary, as trust is a commodity in short supply throughout Nighthaven.

New Raid – Isle of Night

A new 10-player raid set ‘in a once magnificent kingdom whose inhabitants have now fallen Lost’. It will be similar in to the Hive of the Gorgon’s Raid with three bosses, new enemy types, puzzles and more.

This raid will be some of the hardest content in Season 10, demanding players gear-up and coordinate to succeed.

Procedural Expeditions with Extraction – New Game Mode: Catacombs

Touted as a new type of content for up-to three players, Catacombs is described as a ‘procedurally generated dungeon’ where every time you enter, you encounter different enemies and bosses, powerups and currencies to collect with the difficulty ramping up as you progress through each session.

While the difficulty of Catacombs is moderate at the start of a session, the challenge (and reward) is increased significantly each time a boss is defeated. To counter this, players are able to acquire in-mode power-ups that enhance their stats and abilities. With each boss defeated, players must decide between pushing further into the Catacombs for even greater rewards or safely making their exit before time runs out. Failure to make a safe exit results in loss of the vast majority of the treasures collected, but only one player needs to safely exit to avoid this.

Here are some comments the developers have made previously about Catacombs:

[JR] New World: Dev Update – July 2025 – PvE content is very expensive to make and takes a long time. It’s cool to handcraft everything but in the end it only takes a couple of hours to run through it. The whole promise of the procedural dungeons (Expeditions) is we’re trying to keep the magic of those handcrafted dungeons that we’ve been building that you can play over and over again and it’s different every time and you try to beat your best times.

[Dan] July Video Community Q&A dungeon crawler boardgame’s were referenced when designing Procedural Expeditions (the actual name for this content was bleeped out in the video).

[Dan] July Video Community Q&A – you will be able to queue solo, you’ll be put into the instance solo, then you’ll find a group asynchronously through backfill. So you won’t be able to get as far as you would with a group, but you will be able to start playing and getting some rewards for your time.

Endgame Progression Systems Overhaul

Sweeping changes being made to gearing and progression in New World Aeternum in Season 10. Here is what we know so far with more details hopefully being revealed in te upcoming developer video.

Level Cap to 70 and Gear Score Increase

Gear Score max is being raised from 725 to 800. PvP mode gear scaling will change from 700 to 775 GS.

New Gear Modding System – Perk Charms

Instead of 1 customizable gem socket, gear can now have up to four empty sockets into which players can install new perk modifiers called “charms.” Charm sockets and charms themselves have three types: Defensive, Offensive, and Skill. These charms can be picked up fully refined, but more commonly will need to be crafted with rare materials which drop from endgame content.

In regards to crafting, this is what they have said previously.

[NW Joel] August Discord Q&A We will have some new resources in s10 that are somewhat similar to gem cutting but we will have more information to share on this leading up to S10.

Set Bonuses

These new sets will only be earnable from pinnacle endgame content (at least initially): Isle of Night Raid, Catacombs and PvP Track. Players will be able to mix and match sets.

Set bonuses come in two types: some bonuses activate at two equipped pieces and then get better at four equipped pieces (2/4), and some only activate at three pieces and then get better at five pieces (3/5). This means there are seven possible combinations of set bonus configurations: 2,2,2,2,2; 4,4,2; 5,5; 5,3,2; 4,3,3; 2,2,2,2,2; and 3,3,2,2. It’s up to you to decide the best combination of effects that best suits your unique playstyle.

Umbrals

To round out the long-term chase, we’ve ushered in a new generation of Umbral Shards. This means that all gear in the new paradigm stays viable, and upgradable with umbrals rather than the clunky system at the gypsum kiln. Any gear with Gear Score of at least 700 can be upgraded with Umbrals. The system now works slightly differently than umbrals in the past, as it is now a currency with a wallet cap of 1,000 and a weekly rate limit to earn. This will keep Umbral’s value from deteriorating over time, which was a problem we saw with the previous version of this system.

Here are some previous developer comments on Umbrals:

[Joel] New World: Dev Update – July 2025 Good reasons to chase things, not just new content (ie. new raid), making sure there’s good pieces of gear, (new system) set bonuses. With Umbrals a lot of stuff is going to be upgradeable so you’re going to be able to go back to old content as well like Mutations 1, 2 and 3, Sandworm and Gorgon (Hive of the Gorgon Raid). Newer gear and chasables going to be spread to older content. A lot of perk and balance changes that will mix up the meta. M3’s will be reinvigorated and have better rewards.

[Joel] July Video Community Q&A Umbrals are are going to make more gear across the board viable and new socketables for perks and customisation for players.

Attribute Changes and Attributes Saved with Gear Sets

They are removing all perks that increase Attributes. The slot that used to be for Attributes will instead be used for other ‘interesting’ perks.

All of the attribute points that used to come from these perks has been instead added into the native attribute point pool granted by normal leveling—and to make sure this is easier to manage, we’ve made Gear Set Storage loadouts now also save your current Attribute loadout. The attribute perks on existing gear have been replaced with other perks of relatively low power, since players will keep the power the attribute perks used to yield.

Infix Perks

There will still be unique gear pieces with powerful and rare perks called “infixes.” These will function similarly to how the unique perk on artifacts work.

Perk Design

We’ve done a complete sweep through our collection of perks and made some structural changes. Our goal is to make perk selection conditional and thoughtful, and to eliminate “must have” perks that simply raise the critical combat numbers like damage, stamina, and cooldown reduction without some kind of meaningful drawback.

New World Aeternum

New Outpost Rush Map – The Tower

The next 20 vs. 20 OPR Map is set in the new zone and sounds incredible. There will be a preview event for this map from Sep 23 – Sep 30.

“The Tower” rises above the mists, a gothic fortress fusing ancient magic and engineering brilliance atop a mountain peak. Battle across three vertical layers of dark grandeur, from the commanding castle heights to the corrupted depths below. Jump pads and strategic pathways create constant warfare, while three capture points drive the action. Underground passages hide valuable mines and fearsome arenas, providing tactical options and game-changing resources. In this 20v20 battlefield, victory belongs to those who can master both the heights and depths of combat.

There are a couple of bits of content in the Roadmap and talked about in the past by the developers, that are not mentioned in the Season 10 Announcement Article.

[NW_17thCenturyCableGuy] August Discord Q&A There will be new mount offerings in S10!

M3 Expedition Rewards

Players have complained for a long time about how unrewarding M3 Expeditions are. While there was no mention of M3’s specifically in the article, the developers confirmed on Discord that M3’s will have their place in the new endgame.

New World Aeternum Discord Developer comment on M3s Season 10

Thank you for reading! I’ll do my best to keep an eye out for more developer comments on Discord. I’m definitely keen to hear more about the endgame and gearing changes. Hopefully the upcoming developer video will answer some of our questions.
